“I wanted the chair to feel like it was growing back into nature — reclaiming itself through wood and fibre.”
About the Artist

Mai Muraguchi is a Japanese artist based in London, currently pursuing a graduate diploma at the Royal College of Art. She holds a degree in Media Design from Tokyo Zokei University and graduated from the ART PROJECT SCHOOL under the guidance of Professor Masato Nakamura. Her work explores the impact of social pressures, gender roles, and family dynamics on the social and psychological world, focusing on themes of spontaneity and communication. Muraguchi's practice is characterized by an open-minded approach to spaces and experiences, documenting her interactions as a Japanese artist living and working in London. Her exhibitions include solo shows such as 0 -Zero- at Gallery Blue 3143 and group exhibitions like Tokyo Biennale 2020-2021 and JR East Japan HAND! 2022. She is also the founder of emu inc., a creative studio specializing in art direction and graphic design​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
