About the Artist
Carl Fox is a London-based artist specialising in marquetry and parquetry. Formerly a hairdresser, he spent over 25 years honing skills in upholstery, textile work, and furniture restoration before dedicating himself to marquetry. His innovative fusion of leather and wood veneer explores human emotion through form, texture, colour, and line. Carl draws inspiration from both modernist and classical styles, combining geometric forms with traditional figurative elements to create tactile, thought-provoking pieces. His work reflects an intrinsic connection to nature and the materials used by our ancestors. Carl has received mentorship from the Worshipful Leathersellers Company at Cockpit Deptford and the Carpenters Company QEST Scholarship. His works have been showcased at the Venice Biennale: Homo Faber and Collect Art Fair, and are held in collections both in the UK and internationally.
